In 1993 John Jeffery of Bere Farm Winsham started to seriously think about
finding and purchasing a steam engine.

In 1994 John went to the auction sale at Cambridge and nearly bought a pair
of ploughing engines,

In 1995 he saw an advertisement for a Richard Hornsby that was being
imported from Tasmania, he decided to purchase the engine in the October of
the same year.

In November 1995 John travelled to Preston services in Kent to collect the steam engine, it was delivered safely to Bere Farm. It was a very worn out engine and a  huge restoration project.

In 1996 it was totally dismantled and the lengthy task of restoration began.

In the winter of 1997/1998 the boiler, fire box and smoke box where completely rebuilt at Rodger Pridham's workshop in Tavistock.

Over the next three years it was steadily rebuilt and restored, and made its début appearance at the Great Dorset Steam Fair in 2001, but sadly John did not see this as he passed away suddenly earlier in the year.

We would like to thank all those who helped with the restoration especially Rodger Pridham, Ron Bond, Ian Warry, Cerdic Foundry of Chard , Clive Hartwright and Matlock services.

The engine is now being shown and Maintained by Richard Miles by kind permission of Mrs B Jeffery.
